New Experiences: Original and unique tours in Croatia

After a year sheltering in place and staying at home, we are all very eager to travel again! Though we could not travel for a year, the ever changing travel industry kept moving behind the scenes. In this period, we organized some original tours with our expert guides and travel partners. With them, we have put together new, unique excursions to add to a future trip. The past few weeks, we shared some of them in each of the countries we visit. This week, we will focus on breathtaking Croatia.

We learned quite a bit in 2020. We appreciated even more the freedom to travel and the incredible experience of exploring a new destination. Clients are, rightly so, placing more of a value on their time. As such, with our trusted partners, these original tours we have added to our portfolio are perfect additions to your tailor made vacation. Whether you’re looking for a romantic holiday, a family trip or simply just to escape to a new place, we can help.

There are many other original tours that we have organized and that our partners have thought up! This week, we are sharing just a few with you in Croatia. However, the ideas for your ideal tailor made vacation do not stop here! We are happy and eager to help arrange any experiences you have been dreaming of.

Archaeologist for a Day

On the outskirts of Split, discover the fascinating ancient city of Salona. Started as an Illyrian town, Greek colony, and capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia, Salona offers valuable insight into life in the great Roman era. Enjoy a unique tour with your host, a professional archaeologist, and dig on a real archaeological excavation! Let your kids awaken their inner Indiana Jones with this original tour and be “hands-on” amongst ruins, lost artifacts, and memories in stone. This adventure lasts about 3-4 hours and is entertaining for the entire family.

The Blue Lagoon, Hidden Islands & Charming Trogir original tour by boat

This morning cruise into the open sea to the lesser-known islands of unspoiled beauty. Visit the tiny island of Bisevo, which hides a unique natural beauty, the surreal Blue Grotto. This secluded cave has an underwater opening where the sunlight gets in and illuminates the cave with shimmering blue colors. Enjoy the magical setting of this rare natural phenomenon in a short but sweet rowboat tour (we include VIP skip the line access!). There will be time for swimming and snorkeling as well.

Your sea adventure continues on the rugged shores of Vis Island. A Greek colony of Issa in the 4th century BC, Vis had a long and tumultuous past. In recent history, it served as an army base of Yugoslavia and was closed for visitors until 1989. The isolation preserved the island’s traditional way of life so its natural beauties remained intact. Whether you wander the narrow streets of the quiet fishermen village of Komiza, bathe in the spectacular Stiniva Bay, or indulge in gourmet treats in Vis town, it offers a quintessential Mediterranean experience.

Last but not least, be whisked off to Trogir, a historical town and harbor on the Adriatic coast Explore the UNESCO-listed Old Town. Explore its charming streets and sights such as the Cathedral of St Lovro and the Tower Kamerlengo.

The Split Countryside & Cetina Zipline

This morning meet your guide and driver for an original tour of the Split countryside. Your first stop will be the town of Sinj, home to the famous knightly tournament of Sinj Alka. This local equestrian competition is commemorating the Croatian-Venetian victory over the Ottomans in 1715. Visit the quirky Sinj Alka Museum and find out why the Alka is so unique and precious for the locals.

Then you will continue to Cetina River valley for a true adrenaline rush – a private zipline over Cetina canyon. Imagine zipping your way across the magnificent Cetina River 150 meters above the canyon suspended by a wire! 8 wires are running a total of 2100 meters. The highest one is 150 meters above the river canyon. The views from up here are incredible—a bird’s eye experience of some of the most magnificent nature in Croatia! A full 3 hours of pure fun and a healthy dose of adrenalin to satisfy even the most demanding thrill junkies. Afterward, enjoy a ride back to Split for an evening at leisure. Overnight in Split. Wild Horses Safari Original Tour

Discover intact nature and wildlife only an hour ride from Split, across the border, and into the Herzegovina region. Upon arrival to Livno town, meet your host/local guide/photographer and set off on a wild horse off-road photo safari. There are numerous herds of these noble animals at the Kruzi plateau, above Livno, living independently of human care for over 50 years. However, they are socialized and love people’s attention so you can cuddle or feed them, and your guide will capture these precious moments. Visit the herds of sheep and their caring keepers, shepherds who produce cheese following hundred years old recipes inherited from ancestors. For an ultimate family experience, spread your blanket on the green lawn and enjoy a delicious picnic lunch of local organic delicacies.

Slovenia Day Tripping: Postojna Cave & Predjama Castle

A really fun and interesting experience from the Istrian Peninsula is a day trip to Slovenia’s Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle from Rovinj. Your first stop on this original tour will be this spectacular cave with its natural formations, flora, and fauna. This is the only place in the world where the underground landscape can be traversed on an electric train. You can also get up close and personal with this underground kingdom’s most famous inhabitant, the proteus (olm).

Next, you will head to Predjama Castle, nestled in the face of a cliff, to explore its medieval history and Renaissance architecture. Discover its fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries, and halls and astonishing diversity of karst features.
